I'm actually not going to get into a song today. Instead I wanted to draw your attention to the throughly talented and utterly adorable dancer in this particular vid: http://youtu.be/IzC7MAiN8oA

The "B-boy's" name is Daniel Cloud Campos and why I've never heard of him before is really beyond me - he's been around a while and seems to work pretty hard and have a decent Stussy-wearing head on his shoulders. I "saw" him for the first time in a backing video during the Sade concert the other night, where he danced with her to "Love is Found" - one of her sexiest songs ever. Here's the best vid I could find of that performance: http://youtu.be/Rlfc-XjG5B4 I've watched it about 77 times and it gets me every time. So powerful. Magnetic. Sexy, yet, black and white. I love, love, love live music and especially an experience like this particular concert was. And then to encounter something completely new like this young dancer dude was really a treat. That's the thing I dislike most about aging - the lack of novelty.

I so often feel physically and emotionally disconnected. Like several synapses are missing or have atrophied due to underuse. But dancing - especially to heavily syncopated and deeply bass-lined songs - is one of the few times that my own persona continental divide gets breached. I feel alive. Like the breath goes where it's supposed to go. The hips do what they're meant to. The shoulders stay on my back rather than hovering up near my ears. This isn't "Dancing With The Stars" kind of thing, mind you; though I have dreamt of being effortlessly tossed around by Fred Astaire in black and white on a glossy dance floor wearing a a glorious gown, a perfect coiffure and dripping in diamonds. But what I mean by dancing is letting the music get into your bones and expressing yourself through movement, rather than speech which really gets in the way for me a lot of the time. When I let my body "speak" it expresses itself in a simpler, more pure way. And it's definitely more animal. Which is why I suppose some people fear where dancing can lead. But I'll take it any day. My heart going "ba boom ba boom." Feeling alive. After studying Art History and film-making at Vassar and spending entirely too much time down in The Mug, I worked for 15+ years in various aspects of the entertainment arts whilst dreaming of becoming a movie star. That never happened. I'm now a digital age mom, living with my 2 sons and husband in NJ and using music as a means to understand my life as a mom.
