Lambert restrooms get face-lift
For years, the restrooms at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport have been a source of unwanted attention.
For being messy.
So much so that the bathrooms were among the stops former Mayor Clarence Harmon made during a surprise inspection of Lambert in March 2000.
This week, Lambert opened newly remodeled restrooms in Concourse A in the latest step toward turning that image around. (The airport already had been making cleanliness a bigger priority in recent years).
"We know clean and accessible restroom facilities are important to our travelers and we think they will notice a dramatic change with the makeover of our facilities," said Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.
The first batch of renovated restrooms opened near gate A-8 this week, but all restrooms in Concourses A and C - which is currently shuttered because of tornado damage - will be renovated. So will restrooms elsewhere in Terminal 1.
The upgrades include white counters, terrazzo flooring and colorfal walls.
The remodeled restrooms are part of the larger, $50 million Airport Experience renovation program.

COLUMBIA — MO-X shuttles were running on their normal schedule Sunday, two days after a tornado damaged Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and left one of the company’s vans balancing precariously atop a parking garage.
Shuttle services to St. Louis on Saturday were canceled because of the airport's closure, but shuttles to Kansas City ran uninterrupted throughout the weekend. Although MO-X was running on its regular schedule Sunday, some shuttles were being used twice a day to make up for the absence of the damaged van, said Tim Ward, a dispatcher for MO-X.
