Maybe we could buy an island and transport today's misbehavers. Just tell 'em it's an opportunity to build a new life. We could start them off with seedlings, farm animals and tools--one-time expense.. If they work, they'll be fine. If not, and if they create problems, I suspect their neighbors will deal decisively with them. And I suspect it will cost much less than our present prisons. As someone pointed out on a different post regarding "meth labs", the days of the backyard meth labs and medium sized manufacturers is past. Most of the meth sold in California, including Lake County comes from Mexico. The big Mexican cartels deal heavily in meth (they call it "ice") and it is a bigger money maker than their pot operation. When I first moved up to Lake County 22 years ago, the busts of small time "Meth Labs" was pretty common, but with the cartels dominating the market, the smaller meth manufacturers seem to have either gone big time or disappeared. true. I'd recommend the two part Vanguard report on the Marijuana Wars. The ONLY reason the Mexican cartels are doing so darn good are our antiquated laws and policies regarding drugs. If we had a sane drug policy, we'd have far less violence and meth as it's the money from cannabis that fuels the cocaine and methamphetamine manufacturing & distribution.
