Contraband charges add up

CORNWALL (Staff) — Three people have been arrested recently on charges stemming from contraband tobacco seizures made by the Cornwall Regional Task Force.

The task force made the seizures between May 28 and June 14 in South Glengarry township and Cornwall.

James Cholette, 29, and Darren Marsolais, 23, from Cornwall, as well as Atef Ben Jaballah, 27, from Trois-Rivieres, Que., have been charged with possession of unstamped tobacco, under the Excise Act and/or under the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for allegedly possessing unstamped cigarettes.

Cholette is also facing two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and one count of breach of his probation order.

Jaballah was also charged with one count of breach of his probation order.

In court, he pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to 30 days in prison and a fine.

Once he served his jail term, he was removed from Canada by Canadian Border Services Agency officials.

Four other individuals are also facing charges under the Acts, after two vans, one cargo trailer, one 21-foot boat with a 225 HP outboard motor, two dinghies, seven two-wheeled dollies and 17,800 re-sealable bags and/or cartons containing 200 contraband cigarettes each were seized.

The CRTF is a multi-agency task force comprised of officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, Cornwall Community Police Service and Ontario Ministry of Revenue.

I have a 90 hp force Outboard motor. its a late 80s motor. Well the trim always worked and now it wont lift up at all. If i push the button to raise the motor it makes the sound like it did before but i wont raise, i cant even manually pull it up. its just stuck in the down position. I just want to be able to release the motor so i am able to physically lift it up at least so i can put it in and out of lakes. Took it to a repair shop and they wouldn’t work on it saying its to old and they wouldn’t be sure if they can find the parts. I don’t really care if it automatically works with the lever ill just use a bungee cord or straps to hold it up or something. But if anyone has any idea how to release it i will appreciate the help. There is no hydraulic fluid in t im here and i cant find a release lever so i am clueless on what to do. Its almost spring and i wont to wet the lines soon. Thanks alot!

- Make sure the pivot tube on the transom bracket is not seized. - If your trim still does not operate, you may be screwed. Trim motors and valve bodies are still available, but piston seals and replacement parts are obsolete. You may be able to pick up a complete used system somewhere, from about 1983 – 1991, 75 hp and up where all the same.

To manually raise the motor, there is a relief valve located on the side of the valve body (slotted head screw). Open this valve and raise the motor, then close the valve, the motor should stay in the up position. Note: if you use the motor with the trim not functioning properly, you may get engine bounce, which will cause the transom brackets to fail.
