Wells Fargo Donation to fund New College Scholarship
Wells Fargo is donating $50,000 that will be used to fund the first ever College Hub Bucks for Books scholarship program. The grant money will be used to offer college scholarships worth $500 to Spartanburg County high school graduates so that they can use the money to pay for their college textbooks. The scholarship will be awarded to students who show good academic skills but lack the financial support to pay for their higher education.
Dr. Carrie DuPre, executive director of College Hub, is delighted to see Wells Fargo make this kind of donation. With many of the students from Spartanburg County looking to pursue careers that require a college degree, the more financial help these students can receive the better off their chances become when trying to reach their academic goals.
In order to qualify for this new scholarship, students need to be in good academic standing when they graduate and be accepted to an accredited college or university with plans to enroll this fall. Area high school guidance counselors recommended the scholarship to their students, as well as participated in the selection process to determine who would ultimately receive one of the awards.
The Wells Fargo Foundation is a private foundation that prides itself on providing grants to nonprofit organizations that focus on one of these four areas: Education, Community Development, Health and Human Services, and Arts and Culture. In an effort to build a strong community within Spartanburg County, the Wells Fargo Foundation thought it was necessary to assist students with some of their college expenses through a donation to College Hub.
